I also want to thank the voters for putting their trust in me to represent them in Harrisburg.  I look forward to the challenge of going to Harrisburg and fighting to reform our state government.  I am honored and humbled by this experience and I will not let you down.

I wanted to share with you a recent email exchange…

“I’m a democrat.  I was thinking of voting for you.  Today we got the flyer from the democratic State committee that says you broke the law 10 times….Thanks, ”

My response…

“Mr. Supporter,

Thank you for reaching out to me and finding out the truth to the attack ad that you received.  This is an attempt by Vince Biancucci to smear me and my passion to change Beaver County politics.  Apparently our hard work, and the people’s movement for change is paying off.  Their campaign is desperate to dig up anything they can on me.  As far as your question about the ten times I was charged with breaking the law, let me explain. 

If you look at the bottom of the ad, you’ll see the charges.  They consist of parking tickets, and traffic violations (some were even thrown out) and one disorderly conduct.  Let me explain the latter.

When I was 18 years old, and a freshman in college I did something pretty stupid.  I pealed out in an intersection.  I got a careless driving citation.  I went to the Magistrate and apologized and realized I made a mistake.  In order to save me from points on my driving record, the judge threw out the careless driving and gave me a disorderly conduct.  He and the officer accepted my apology.  I’ve learned from my mistakes and I realize that anything is on the table in a campaign.  However this is a ridiculous and irrelevant point in fixing the major problems in Harrisburg and Beaver County.

Today State Representative Vince Biancucci sponsored and pushed through an amendment that created a loop hole in the Local Tax Reform Act of 1988 that abolished the Mercantile Tax on new entities.  The ramifications of this bill will now make it harder for businesses in Monaca Borough to stay in business, and will hinder new businesses from coming into the borough. It also ended the chance of eliminating the tax in Center Township, which was set to expire when the merger of Center-Monaca was finalized.  This tax is an unfair tax on gross revenues for wholesale and retail trades, as well as restaurants.  These types of businesses are vital to the local economy of Monaca Borough’s business and residential communities.  It is hard enough to operate a small business in Pennsylvania due to the high Personal Income Tax that was irresponsibly raised in 2004 by Governor Rendell and supported by Representative Biancucci. 

With all due respect, this is another example of how Representative Biancucci has lost touch with the business communities and the voters of Beaver County.  Government should be easing the burden on businesses to create, save and protect jobs in Beaver County and Pennsylvania not increasing the burden.

The alleged reason behind this decision was to help raise enough revenue to support the merger of Monaca-Center School districts.  As much as I support the merger of school districts, I do not support doing it at the expense of higher taxes on businesses and residents.  If the government wants to help make this merger take place, then I believe they shall supplement the shortfall of the revenues needed to make this consolidation take place. 

While on Beaver Borough Council I fought to have the Mercantile Tax removed to help our business community grow.  I believe that it is an unfair tax, which hinders businesses from coming into a community, and penalizes businesses who operate in communities with this tax.

Yesterday consisted of putting out hundreds of yard signs, no matter if people are Republicans or Democrats we have signs for everyone.  Please let me know if you would like to show your support by placing a sign in your front yard.

 This weekend Beaver will be celebrating it’s first ever Homecoming.  On Saturday there will be a parade on Third Street, followed by a craft show in the parks, and a tailgate party prior to the start of the Beaver vs Ellwood City football game.  I look forward to seeing a lot of old friends and family.

Yesterday I spent the day talking with voters in Center Township.  It was perfect weather for knocking on doors, and I met a lot of people who were appreciative of a candidate getting out and talking to them.
